About us

With the recent relocation of Mahurangi Montessori Primary, we are developing a unique educational approach, which weaves together the principles of Modern Learning, Montessori and Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga (the language and the way of Māori) under the school’s whakatuakī, Kotahi te Hikoi Whakamua (Forward Together).

This educational approach focuses on ‘active’ learning, where ākonga (students) learn through doing and problem-solving; independence, which empowers ākonga to work at a pace and level suited to them; the development of the ‘whole child’, creating social and emotional intelligence as well as academic intelligence; and building a deep understanding of Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga.

We are a small, semi-rural school situated near the stunning Pakiri Beach, whose localised curriculum connects to the natural resources on its doorstep. We offer highly individualised learning programmes in mixed-age classes and run from year one to eight.

Our Vision & Values

Empowering a community of confident, respectful and adaptable life long learners.

We value a community that aims high and perseveres in the face of difficulties.

We value a respectful community and the importance of positive relationships.

We value 'hauora' the Māori philosophy of health and wellbeing unique to Aotearoa New Zealand.

We value a courageous community where risk taking and trying new things are an integral part of learning.

We value a community that fosters unity.

School Treaty

One of the first things our ākonga (students) did when the two communities came together was to create a school treaty to  help them grow their school values as they learn together.
