The principal places strong emphasis on children being treated as capable and competent learners. A climate of trust between teachers and children and the promotion of tuakana-teina relationships within the school are having a positive impact on learning. Flexible teaching approaches are responsive to individual needs. Opportunities to reflect on ways to improve their learning enable children to develop good foundational skills for life-long learning.

The curriculum offers a wide range of learning experiences both in and outside the classroom so that students are not disadvantaged by the school’s isolation or size. There are frequent sporting and cultural visits to other schools and local resource people come to the school to support the curriculum.
