Pet Day

21 September, 2019

Pet Day is our annual fundraising event with food, drink, raffles, stalls, a silent auction and entertainment.  We had a really fun and successful event this year. Funds raised will be put towards our digital technology and beautifying the outdoor play areas.  We would like to thank our kaimahi (staff), ākonga (students), whanau (families), Te Whānau o Pakiri, and sponsors (listed below). Tēnā rawa atu koe!

Hāngī are about celebration, tikanga (custom) and whanaungatanga (relationships). Each year our beautiful Te whanau o Pakiri put down a hāngī for our Pet Day fundraiser.  Here you can see two of our dad's digging the hāngī pit the night before the event.

The morning kicked off with a pet parade.  The ākonga took their animals around the course and then answered questions put to them by our judges.

At the end of the pet parade the judges gave out ribbons to the top performers.

Chloe and her lamb Choco achieved a first place in the lamb section and overall winner.  Congratulations Chloe!

We had a great section of food stalls.  These dad's were cooking inanga (whitebait) fritters.

We also had tio repe (oysters), seafood chowder, a sausage sizzle, and bacon and egg butties on offer.

The ākonga made lemonade, which was sold at the cake stall.

There was a wide range of delicious cakes made by our whanau.

The ākonga organised and ran kids games.

Inside Room 1 there was a display of ākonga work, Vaseline flowers, poetry, art and more.

Our ākonga have a real entrepreneurial spirit and worked hard to create products for their stall where they sold organic natural insect repellents, lip balm, beeswax food eco-wraps and hand crafted toys.

One of the most popular parts of Pet Day are the bucket raffles.

50 bucket raffles were on offer, and every $5 ticket gave the buyer a chance to be in all 50 draws.

A fun day was had by all.  We look forward to doing it again next year!
